6. Christmas Crafts Grant For Youth Groups
Cavan Monaghan Local Creative Youth Partnership are delighted to launch our new Christmas Crafters Grant. This is a new community initiative aimed at youth groups engaging with young people aged 7 to 24 years and supports the design and creation of items to be sold at local Christmas markets.
Grant Details
Applications can be made to a maximum value of €500, for the provision of purchasing materials which aid in the creation of the item(s) that young people will be creating to sell at Christmas markets. The initiative is open to community, voluntary and not-for-profit services and organisations that support children and young people in Cavan & Monaghan. Any money generated must be reinvested within the club for the benefit of the young people involved in the project/club.
The maximum funding allocation per individual project will not exceed €500. However, grants awarded may be considerably less than that, depending on the number of valid applications funded.
Target Group
The target group for the Christmas Crafters Grant is children and young people in ‘out of school’ settings, with a particular focus on those who are seldom heard, marginalised or experience disadvantage. Young people must be consulted before submitting an application as the ideas for the items you design, craft, and sell at Christmas markets should originate from them.
Outcomes
The focus of this project is to enhance the creativity and entrepreneur skills of young people. Ultimately, we want young people to tap into their creativity and cultivate essential skills in business and entrepreneurship. It is hoped that the skills and the confidence gained might give young people the ability to start their own venture some day!
Supporting Workshop
An optional social entrepreneur workshop is available to successful groups to help them brainstorm craft ideas. This will be in collaboration with Future in Perspective through their IGNITE Project. Its aim is to help young people set up their own social enterprises through fun and interactive online simulation games, group activities, and practical templates. This workshop(s) should be booked through Future in Perspective, and their availability will be determined at their discretion.
Applications
Organisations and groups are invited to apply online for funding via https://cmetb.submit.com
Closing date for receipt of applications is Tuesday, 21st October 2025 at 4pm

20- Cavan Renewable Energy Survey
In line with our national obligations and commitments laid out in the Cavan County Development Plan 2022-2028 and the Cavan Local Climate Action Plan, Cavan County Council has procured consultants Arup to develop a County Renewable Energy Strategy.
The Cavan County Renewable Energy Strategy will be a key component of future governance decisions and policy development in County Cavan and will sit within a broader economic and community development plan. The Strategy aims to identify the potential of renewable energy sources and explore the opportunities and constraints of these sources across a range of socio-economic, environmental, and political considerations. The opportunities and constraints will be presented alongside a series of GIS maps and baseline graphs. The Strategy will also include renewable energy generation targets for County Cavan.
The project team would like to invite members of the public to complete a short survey to help inform the Renewable Energy Strategy for County Cavan: Link to Renewable Energy Strategy Survey
21- Power to Change Survey
As part of the Power to Change project led by Atlantic Technological University in partnership with the Sligo Public Participation Network, they are collecting input from community groups across Ireland.
Please take this 15 minute survey to help gather evidence of the constraints community groups face both in taking action for climate and in your general work.
Survey here: www.surveymonkey.com/r/NHFCGGT
Please also share with other groups you know. Ultimately the Power to Change project has been about actively supporting groups to undertake climate actions. However there are barriers to groups undertaking climate action, as well as challenges that community organisations face in general. In order to help groups overcome these challenges we need to gather evidence. This means hearing from you!
The data generated will be used as part of Power to Change to demonstrate to government evidence that they need to provide supports to this sector and that they need to listen to community organisations and respond to their needs in terms of the changes they make, if they want the sector to engage in climate action.
If you would like to read more about the Power to Change project you can do so here: https://www.sligoppn.com/power-to-change/

If your details have changed or if you yourself (the contact point) have left the group, there will be an option to update the contact details.Though we hope not to lose any groups, we are aware that this does happen and it’s important that groups that have disbanded are no longer receiving the information that is now of no use to them. 34- Breakdown of the 2026 Budget for Community
Budget 2026: Ministers Calleary and Buttimer secure €611 million in funding for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht
€192 million secured for continued delivery of rural development schemes, with increased funding for the Local Improvement Scheme (LIS), CLÁR, Outdoor Recreation, and the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
€260 million for community development schemes, with increased funding for the Community Services Programme (CSP); and funding for a new RAPID-style scheme to commence in 2026.
Additional funding of over €36 million for Gaeltacht, the Irish Language, and for the Islands. This provides €159 million for enhanced supports across a range of schemes and for delivery of key capital projects – Inis Oírr pier, the Irish Language and Cultural Centre in Harcourt Street, and the new Educational and Youth Facility in Indreabhán, Co Galway.
Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, and Minister of State, Jerry Buttimer TD, today announced a Budget package worth €611 million for 2026.
This funding ensures continued investment across the range of current and capital schemes operated by the Department, supporting the economic and social development of communities right across the country, including the Gaeltacht and the Islands.
The Department’s Rural Development programme will total €192 million, continuing the sustained investment of recent years and supporting the range of schemes that are key to delivery of Our Rural Future. Funding increases will be made available for the Local Improvement Scheme (LIS), CLÁR, Outdoor Recreation, Town and Village Renewal.
Across the Community Development area total funding of €260 million will be available for 2026. €74 million is being allocated to SICAP and other social inclusion supports. This includes €13 million per annum for important community integration work, helping to support new arrivals.
The Community Services Programme will increase by €4 million, to €59.4 million and funding for the Community Centre Investment Fund will increase by €3 million to €20 million which will support targeted measures to assist communities in becoming more storm resilient.
Funding of €159 million will be available in 2026 for the Gaeltacht, Irish Language and Islands Programme, an increase of over €36 million. This allocation will provide a wide range of supports to Gaeltacht areas and fund initiatives to strengthen the Irish language. It will also support the development of our island communities and the provision of vital transport services for the islands. Increased capital investment will also enable significant infrastructure projects to be delivered over the coming years.
Speaking today, Minister Calleary said:
“I’m pleased to have secured funding of €611 million for my Department as part of Budget 2026. This builds on strong investment in recent years, and it demonstrates the Government’s continued support for rural and community development, the Gaeltacht, and the Islands. This funding will benefit communities up and down the country.
“With this level of investment, we can continue to deliver on the aims of ‘Our Rural Future’ and start the implementation of its successor policy, which will be launched next year.”
Minister Calleary added:
“I am particularly pleased with securing a 29% increase in the overall funding allocation for the Gaeltacht, the Irish Language and the Islands. This will allow additional support for existing schemes and facilitate the roll-out of a number of new initiatives. It will also enable the delivery of three key infrastructure projects: Inis Oírr pier, the Irish Language and Cultural Centre in Harcourt Street, and redevelopment of the Coláiste Lurgan site in Indreabhán as an Educational and Youth Hub for the Conamara Gaeltacht. These are transformative projects that, once delivered, will benefit both Gaeltacht communities and the language for years to come.”
Minister of State Buttimer, who has responsibility for Community Development and Charities, added:
“Budget 2026 will support the Government’s ongoing commitment to promote social inclusion, community development, and the community and voluntary sector. €260 million in funding will be available in 2026 for the community development sector. This will benefit both rural and urban communities – and will also provide vital support in areas such as community integration, the provision of community services, and the enhancement of community infrastructure.”
