3.      East Cavan Community Benefit Fund

The SSE Renewables Community Benefit Funds are designed to support charities and voluntary not-for-profit organisations that provide meaningful, long-term benefit to communities located within a 20km radius of our wind farms, with priority given to projects and organisations based within a 5km radius. (Map attached for your information).

Note for Co.Cavan -  the map spans an area from Cavan Town in the west to Kingscourt in the east, and from Cootehill in the north to Virginia in the south.

Our fund is a private funding stream, which means it can be used by community groups as match funding to leverage public funding sources such as LEADER or Sports Capital. Our broader vision is to act as a catalyst for large-scale, high impact, and sustainable projects in the local area. By providing early-stage financial support, we hope to unlock additional public and private investment into transformative community initiatives.

As with all SSE Renewables Community Benefit Funds, projects must align with one or more of the following UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

•                     SDG 4 - Quality Education

•                     SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy

•                     SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities

•                     SDG 13 - Climate Action

In addition to aligning with the SDGs, projects are strongly encouraged to also contribute to one or more of SSE Renewables’ Strategic Objectives, as this alignment helps strengthen the overall case for support and contributes to long-term, meaningful impact in the communities we serve.

1.                  Empowering Communities for a Green Transition – supporting community-led efforts that reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, promote circular economy practices, and enhance local biodiversity.

2.                  Sustainable Communities – Resilience, Equity and Learning – building community resilience through inclusive infrastructure, accessible education and skills development, social enterprise, and initiatives that support health and well-being.

This fund is likely to open for a second round of funding later in the summer / autumn. If you would like to be kept informed about this fund please register using the ‘Form’ link under the Get in Touch section on the funds webpage - East Cavan and Monaghan | SSE Renewables

9- Full Circle Awards Hi there,

I hope you’re doing well. My name is Eibhlin, and I’m the Community Liaison for Circular.ie, working with the Rediscovery Centre, Ireland's National Centre for the Circular Economy. I know CECAS has worked with the centre previously on the Paint Reuse Network and I wanted to introduce our new Circular.ie project that may be of interest to you. Circular.ie is a 5-year, government-funded project designed to build knowledge and understanding of local initiatives focused on waste prevention, repair, reuse, and rethinking. Our aim is to foster greater awareness and action around circular economy principles, supporting communities across Ireland in adopting more sustainable practices.

We’re thrilled to announce the Full Circle Awards, recognising everyday heroes who are making extraordinary efforts across Ireland's circular economy. With prizes of €2,000, these awards will help winners scale their circular initiatives and inspire community action nationwide.

Do you know someone breathing new life into household items? A teacher sparking sustainability in the classroom? Or a neighbour organising clothing swaps and sharing events? Now’s your chance to celebrate their efforts and give them the recognition they truly deserve.

The categories are:

Repair and Reuse Champion - For individuals who regularly repair, repurpose, or extend the life of items — including clothing, tools, furniture, or electronics.

Community Circular Champion - Honouring people who lead or support community initiatives like sharing libraries, swap events, food waste solutions, or local repair cafés.

Creative Circular Artist - For those who transform waste materials into art, furniture, décor, or other creative expressions through upcycling.

Circular Living Advocate - For individuals who live by and promote zero-waste, low-impact lifestyles — including educators, content creators, and everyday role models.

Best Community Campaign - Shining a light on the best campaigns that Circular Economy community groups are running in Ireland.

Young Circular Star (Under 18) - Celebrating children or young people leading the way in sustainability and circular thinking — in school, at home, or in their community.

It would be great if you could share this with community groups or people in your area that may be interested. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Kind regards,

--

10- 330,000 for Outdoor Swimming Projects

The Minister for Public Health, Wellbeing and the National Drugs Strategy Jennifer Murnane O’Connor TD has today announced €330,000 in funding to support participation in outdoor swimming across Ireland.

This is the second year of the Healthy Ireland initiative, which aims to support the growing popularity of outdoor swimming by improving accessibility and safety. Funding will be allocated to swimming projects nationwide to make them more accessible so that more people can enjoy its many health benefits. Applications for funding will be considered for swimming sites that wish to improve access, develop or improve changing facilities or purchase equipment to assist people with disabilities.

Minister Murnane O’Connor said:

“I’m delighted to have secured funding to continue this wonderful initiative which will enable more people to enjoy swimming at Ireland’s many designated outdoor swimming locations in 2025. Swimming outdoors is fantastic for our physical and mental health and wellbeing and provides a wonderful opportunity for people to connect with others. It’s important that we build on the growth in popularity of swimming by enabling as many people as possible, across all ages, to participate. This is a perfect example of the Healthy Ireland principles in action, and will help more people to enjoy the fantastic swimming amenities at our rivers, lakes, beaches and outdoor pools.”

The funding will be administered by Sport Ireland on behalf of the Department of Health.

CEO of Sport Ireland Úna May said:

“Sport Ireland is proud to collaborate once more with the Minister following her success in making funding available in 2025. The initiatives supported by this funding, along with the launch of Ireland’s first National Swimming Strategy, can play an instrumental role in enabling more people to swim outdoors.

"As shown by the Irish Sport Monitor 2024 report, swimming is the second most popular participation sport in Ireland, offering a unique opportunity for inclusivity across all of society. Sport and physical activity are hugely important for our population’s physical and mental wellbeing.

"The range of locations, across Ireland’s rivers, lakes and seas, make them ideal for people who may face geographic or economic barriers to swimming. Our network of Local Sports Partnerships worked effectively with the Local Authorities in 2024 and we will once more work together with Healthy Ireland and Swim Ireland to build on these successes.”

Applications for Healthy Ireland’s Outdoor Swimming Infrastructure Fund can be made to Sport Ireland via participation@sportireland.ie. Details of the application process have been sent to Local Sports Partnerships.

In 2024, Healthy Ireland funding was allocated to 26 projects around Ireland, enabling broader participation by improving access, developing and enhancing changing facilities and procuring equipment to assist people with disabilities.

SURVEYS/CONSULTATIONS

17- Community & Voluntary Survey for Government Strategy

Minister of State with responsibility for Community Development and Charities, Jerry Buttimer TD, today (Thursday, 3 July) announced the commencement of a stakeholder consultation on the development of a new Government strategy to support the sector.

The consultation will give organisations across the community and voluntary sector an opportunity to contribute to the new strategy. The Minister made the announcement on a visit to community projects supported by East Clare Community Co-operative Society Limited.

The announcement to develop a new whole-of-government strategy acknowledges the important role played by the community and voluntary sector in Ireland. It will reinforce the progress made under the current strategy: Sustainable, Inclusive and Empowered Communities: A five-year strategy to support the community and voluntary sector in Ireland 2019-2024, which was extended into 2025.

The new strategy will look to build upon the structures, achievements and objectives of Sustainable, Inclusive and Empowered Communities for the upcoming period 2026 – 2030. The development process itself will be rooted in the agreed set of values and principles for collaboration and partnership working with the community and voluntary sector at national and local level. These provide for foundation for all consultation, collaboration and partnership working between the community and voluntary sector and central and local government.

The development of the new strategy will be led by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, in collaboration with the Cross-Sectoral Group on local and community development. The Department will engage with national and local government and key stakeholders from the community and voluntary sector.

The new strategy will set out clear objectives, and specific actions to be implemented in a collaborative manner.

You can access the survey and find more information below:

The deadline for submissions is 15 August.

All responses received will be treated in confidence.

Plus, by completing the survey you will help us build understanding about the local

dance scene, community, and industry.

What if I think my venue isn't suitable for dance?

As part of these requirements, BnM wishes to invite further communication with you, as an interested stakeholder, to provide any comments and observations on a defined questionnaire, since the completion of the rehabilitation plans. Dear Public Participation Network,

My name is Aine Sperrin and I am working on a Horizon Europe funded project called E-SPFDigit,  https://e-spfdigit.eu/. The aim of the project is to develop technological tools to support soil health.  As part of the project we are seeking responses to surveys from as many people as possible who are involved in using soil for work or leisure.  This survey targets stakeholders across the entire Farm to Fork chain—including farmers, cooperatives, companies, academia, NGOs, and citizens or their associations.

I would be extremely grateful if you could circulate the survey among your networks. It is a European wide project and I am keen to ensure Irish perspectives are adequately reflected in the project findings.

We are delighted to announce that the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, is now seeking Expressions of Interest for participants in the 2025-2026 SDG Champions Programme.

Established in 2019, the SDG Champions Programme is a non-funded programme, developed to raise public awareness of the SDGs and to demonstrate, through best practice examples provided by the SDG Champions, that everyone in society can make a contribution to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Under the Programme, the Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment, will appoint several organisations as SDG Champions for a period of 18 months, from September 2025. The organisations will be selected from a wide range of sectors of Irish society, representing the commitment to sustainable development across the public, private, community, voluntary, youth and NGO sectors.

Applications are sought from all organisations and groups, big and small, who would like to act as an advocate for the SDGs and a good practice example of how to promote and progress the SDGs. Applications will be accepted from organisations/groups based in the Republic of Ireland. This can include cross-border, multi-national organisations with Irish operations. We encourage all eligible organisations and groups to apply.

Applications must be submitted in written or video format (no more than 600 words or no longer than a 4-minute video).

For further details and guidance on how to apply, please see: gov.ie.

Applications should be sent to SDGs@dcee.gov.ie. Please include your preferred contact details.

All Expressions of Interest must be received by 5pm, Wednesday 30th July, 2025.

30- We Act Culture Night

Hi CavanPPN,

We are so excited to be partnering once again with Culture Night!

And we want you to be part of it!

We Act is a campaign that’s all about celebrating the charity and community sector.

It’s about breaking down barriers and increasing understanding between the public and the organisations at work in their communities. That means literally open the doors of charities and community groups around Ireland, and letting the public see inside.

And this is our chance!

For the fourth year running, We Act is collaborating with Culture Night to host a special programme of events aimed at sharing your organisations with the public. Whether you’re in the arts space or you run overseas development programmes, if you’re a tiny rural youth centre or a large mental health charity in a city, we want you to open your doors and showcase what you do for one evening, on Friday, 19 September 2025.

How to Take Part in We Act at Culture Night

You can register for Culture Night here: https://culturenight.ie/get-involved/

Make sure you mention We Act in the description of your event so it can be highlighted on the Culture Night website, and we can promote is as part of We Act x Culture Night.

The programme is managed at a county level through Local Arts Office, so you’ll be liaising with them on the event itself. However, if you’re signing up, email claire@wheel.ie to let us know and we can make sure we showcase your event and send out posters and badges.

This August the RSA’s Check it Fits service will be visiting County Cavan and Meath. Did you know it’s the law that all children under 150cms or 36kgs must use a child car seat appropriate to their weight and height. In Ireland as many as 54% of child car seats are incorrectly fitted which can lead to serious injury or even death in a collision. Since the start of the service, the RSA’s ‘Check it Fits’ Service has checked over 70,000 child car seats and restraints in Ireland.

The Check it Fits service is quick, it’s easy, it’s free. On the day our experts will advise on how to fix any problem, demonstrate how to fit the restraint correctly and answer any queries participants might have. Our experts aim to put parent’s, grandparent’s and guardian’s minds at ease that their child’s car seat is safely and securely fitted in their car.

We will be visiting the following locations in Cavan and Meath:

33- New Cavan Monaghan Connects Platform Launched

Community leaders, health professionals and service users gathered on the 18th of June in The Peace Link, Clones, to unveil Cavan Monaghan Connects – a new, purpose-built online hub that brings trusted mental health information, services, and training opportunities together in one easily-navigated place for the people of Cavan and Monaghan.

Established by HSE Connecting for Life Cavan Monaghan, in partnership with Mental Health Ireland, Cavan and Monaghan County Councils, and a broad network of local community & statutory organizations, the project was developed in response to the growing need for quality-assured and evidence-based information related to mental health and wellbeing, including information on local support and services available.

This project allows the locality to sort supports by county, age group, theme or delivery type in seconds. All listings are vetted, up-to-date and tailored to Cavan and Monaghan, reducing the “needle-in-a-haystack” search through national directories. The online hub is built to grow as service providers can submit events or training directly through the site, while a feedback form encourages ongoing community input and quality improvement.

The launch opened with Cathaoirleach Cllr O’Hanlon welcoming guests to the Peace Link on behalf of Monaghan County Council, after which Padraig O’Beirne, Area Director of Nursing with HSE Cavan Monaghan Mental Health Services, set the scene as Master of Ceremonies. Lisa Cuthbert, CEO of Mental Health Ireland, outlined the initiative’s vision and the importance of collaboration across sectors. Communications Co-ordinator Odhran O’Brien then showcased the Cavan Monaghan Connects platform, sharing video messages of support and guiding attendees through key features and navigation. The event closed with the HSE Resource Officer for Suicide Prevention, Emer Mulligan, who formally acknowledged the many funders, statutory partners and community organizations whose joint effort made the new regional resource possible and thanked all in attendance for their ongoing commitment to mental health promotion.

Cavan Monaghan Connects is live atwww.cavanmonaghanconnects.ie, with new content added weekly. Follow them on social media for updates.
