  • €600,000 fund available over three years for pilot place-based philanthropy projects.

  •  A key objective of the National Philanthropy Policy 2024-2028 to promote Government and sectoral partnership.

  • Supporting community led projects that test innovative, co-funding approaches to addressing local issues.

Minister of State for Rural and Community Development, Jerry Buttimer, today (Thursday, 15th May) announced a funding call for pilot place-based philanthropy projects.

This call is focussed on local projects that bring together community and philanthropic resources in a collaborative way to address key social issues. Funding will be provided on a 50:50 match funding basis, with up to €50,000 per annum available over three years for successful projects.

This call is a key action under the National Philanthropy Policy for Ireland 2024-2028 aimed at promoting Government and philanthropic collaboration.

The call will provide funding to co-funded projects that address a local need or challenge, have a confirmed philanthropic partner and are able to demonstrate strong community involvement, cross sector collaboration and sustainable outcomes.

Minister Buttimer said:

“I am very pleased to launch this call for pilot place-based philanthropy projects. The Programme for Government affirms the Government’s commitment to progressing the National Philanthropy Policy which is aimed at growing philanthropy in Ireland.

“The Policy sets a clear vision – to create an environment that supports philanthropy and maximises its impact for the public good.

“And place-based giving is a major driver for philanthropists to give back to their local communities.

“This call for pilot projects is a first step towards developing a framework for greater partnership and collaboration between government – both local government and national government - and the philanthropic community.”

Applications to this call must be led by a community development organisation or community- based group that has a confirmed philanthropic funding partner.  Consultation and engagement with the relevant local authority will also be taken into consideration when assessing applications.

The closing date for applications is Monday 16th June at 12pm. More information is available here on gov.ie.

By joining the National Recycling Bin Survey, you’re not just filling out a form – you’re contributing to one an important environmental database in the country. You’ll:

  • Count and record the packaging in your household’s recycling bin

  • Note where items came from (supermarkets, takeaways, etc.)

  • Reflect on your own consumption – and maybe even be surprised by it!

20- Consultation on Roadmap for Social Inclusion

The Minister for Social Protection, Dara Calleary, has launched a public consultation on a new Roadmap for Social Inclusion.

The new roadmap will be a successor to the current Roadmap for Social Inclusion 2020-2025 which is the latest in a series of such plans dating back to 1997.

The Roadmap for Social Inclusion aims to reduce the number of people in poverty in Ireland and increase social inclusion for the most disadvantaged.

The current Roadmap contains 81 commitments, which have been developed with relevant departments and agencies to reflect their strategies and plans. Progress on the Roadmap and its commitments have been reported in annual Progress Reports and Report Cards.

The public consultation is open until 30 June 2025.

For more information and for details on how to share your views visit gov.ie/SIConsultation.

21- Have Your Say On Policing Policies

We want you and your community members to have their say on the areas of policing that they believe the Gardaí should focus their time, resources and attention on.

The Policing and Community Safety Authority has launched a Public Consultation on Policing Priorities for the Garda Síochána for 2026-2028. This user-friendly online tool allows you to spend ‘points’ on the areas of policing that you consider are most important. It will take about 10 minutes to complete, and there is a short, optional survey at the end. The consultation runs until 08 June 2025 and is open to anyone over the age of 16.

The Policing and Community Safety Authority (PCSA) is the new independent oversight body for An Garda Síochána; combining the functions of the former Policing Authority and Garda Síochána Inspectorate, with a new expanded role in community safety. One of our core values is listening—to communities, representative bodies, and the wider public. By gathering feedback on people’s expectations and experiences, we can ensure our work is informed, inclusive, and responsive.

As part of our mandate, the PCSA determines the Policing Priorities for An Garda Síochána. The Policing Priorities become the areas that An Garda Síochána should focus their efforts and resources.

We are committed to reaching as broad and diverse an audience as possible and would greatly appreciate your support in spreading the word. Public Participation Networks play a vital role in engaging people across all sectors of the community, fostering conversation, and surfacing the hopes and concerns of local residents. We want to hear from all voices in the community on this important issue.

Please share the consultation through your networks, including social media, newsletters, or any other channels available to you. We would appreciate for you to tag us using the hashtags: #PCSA, #PolicingPriorities, and #HaveYourSay.

Short explainer videos, available in both Irish and English, can be found on our YouTube channel.

If you have any queries, please contact us at consultation@pcsaireland.ie.

Thank you in advance for engaging with our Public Consultation on Policing Priorities.

Karen Shelly,

Director of Outreach and Engagement
