10 Running AGM Training
We’ve all been to AGMs and left feeling frustrated. They’re a “must-do” event on our annual calendar, but many wish they didn’t have to attend. Why is that?
The main issue is that the purpose of an AGM isn’t well understood. Its importance for a well-run organisation is often overlooked, leading to poor planning.
This workshop will help participants appreciate and plan for an event that members will actually want to attend while benefiting the organisation.
Learning objectives
AGMs are a requirement so understanding their importance and planning for them to be successful is critical for the health of an organisation.
How to plan for an AGM that members will want to come to.
The legal context of AGMs, including:
What goes wrong
How to ensure that it is seen as a central part of an organisation’s annual work programme.
Timelines leading to the day
An agenda to cover what is legally required and what would be good to add and exclude.
Running the meeting to the benefit of all present.
Who should attend
Board members especially Chairs and (Company) Secretaries, CEOs and admin staff
How to register

11 Equality & Human Rights Training
I want to introduce Equal by Design, a practical two-part Equality and Human Rights training programme that may be of interest to the P.P.N, community groups, voluntary organisations, public bodies, and others engaged in social inclusion and community development work.
The programme has been developed and is delivered by Robert Carey, an equality and social inclusion practitioner with extensive experience in community development and inclusion initiatives, including leadership roles within the community sector such as SICAP management.
The workshops provide a foundation in equality and human rights principles, Irish equality legislation, the Public Sector Equality and Human Rights Duty, and practical approaches to applying these concepts in day-to-day organisational practice. Participants gain useful tools to support inclusive service delivery, policy development, and community engagement.
The programme is suitable for NGOs, community organisations, public sector staff, and anyone seeking to strengthen their understanding and application of equality and human rights principles.
Please find attached an information flyer. I would be grateful if you could circulate these through your networks and share them with any organisations that may benefit.
If you would like further information or would like to discuss delivering the training in your area, please feel free to contact me.

17 Calling All Women's Sheds & Groups
Calling Women’s Sheds and women’s groups across Ireland
Researchers at the University of Limerick are conducting a national study exploring the experiences, challenges and impacts of Women’s Sheds and similar women’s groups across Ireland.
If you are on the organising committee of a Women’s Shed or women’s community group, you are invited to register to take part in this research. This will help build a better understanding of the contribution these groups make to women’s wellbeing, social connection and community life.
Your participation will help inform recommendations about how Women’s Sheds and groups can be better supported in the future.
To register, email megan.vine@ul.ie before the 1st of November, with 'Women's Sheds National Survey' in the subject line, including your name and the name of your Shed.
18 Future of Home Care Survey
Dear Cavan PPN Members,
I’m contacting you through Volunteer Ireland to ask for your help in sharing an important survey about home support for older people in Ireland.
The ATTUNE project, led by researchers at RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences and funded by the Department of Health and the Health Research Board, is exploring how home support services can better meet the needs of people aged 65 and over. Its findings will help inform future home support policy and services across Ireland.
The future of home care matters to all of us. Getting support right can make an enormous difference to an older person’s independence, dignity and ability to remain in their own home. It is essential that decisions about these services are informed by the people who use them and understand, through everyday experience, what works and what needs to change.
Your PPN could help bring those voices into this research. Would you please circulate the survey through your newsletter and member networks, particularly to older-person groups and organisations supporting people who receive home support? We would also appreciate you encouraging members to share it directly with people who may not see an online newsletter.
The survey is voluntary and anonymous. It is for people over 65 who have experience of receiving home support in Ireland. A family carer or someone they trust can complete it on their behalf.
Survey link: Attune Home Support Survey
The research team is also inviting participants to take part in a 30-minute interview about their experiences. Anyone interested can contact elizabethmorrow@rcsi.ie. Interview participants will receive a shopping voucher as a thank you.
Further information can be found on the project website: https://attune-project.eu/
Thank you for helping ensure that older people’s experiences are heard in research that will inform the future of home support in Ireland.
19 Cavan Community Consultation Panel Sought
CavanPPN is seeking to develop a COMMUNITY CONSULTATION PANEL that can help input into the various consultations which are advertised both locally and nationally. The Panel will consist of voices from a wide array of our member groups and help to ensure that each consultation submission includes as wide a demographic voice as possible from the PPN.
Key members will be asked to meet 4-6 times per year to input into a variety of strategically important consultations to the community sector for a period of no more than 2 hours arranged to suit their times at a central location in the county (refreshments served). Some consultations between meetings may require them to email their feed-back but we aim to make this as inclusive as possible without being too onerous to you.
If you are interested in being a voice for your community in influencing decisions through consultation then email us at cavanppn@gmail.com with the title CONSULT and we will be in touch. Numbers are limited and capped at 20 to ensure the panel can hear ALL voices at the table. No more than one voice per demographic can be included so more voices can add to the consultations.
Examples of demographics include: Disabilities, New Communities, Youth, Women's Interests, Older Persons, the 3 Areas of Cavan (Municipal Districts), LGBT+, Sports, Arts and so on.
Deadline for expressing interest is Friday October 30th at midday.

20 Our Rural Future 2026-2031 Launched
Government launches Our Rural Future 2026-2031
An ambitious new policy to drive rural development and strengthen rural communities
Focus on rural enterprise and employment, tackling rural isolation and strengthening community resilience
A new strategic rural investment initiative will help unlock major capital projects at regional level
New policy sets out 34 commitments to support the continued growth and prosperity of rural Ireland
Accompanying Action Plan for the period to end 2028 sets out 234 practical measures and timelines for delivery
The Government has today (Tuesday, 27 October 2026) launched an ambitious new Our Rural Future policy, setting out 34 high-level commitments to strengthen rural communities, support local economies and improve quality of life across rural Ireland.
Building on the significant progress achieved under Our Rural Future 2021-2025, the new whole-of-Government policy sets out a vision for a thriving and resilient rural Ireland.
It brings together commitments from across Government to ensure that rural communities have the infrastructure, services and supports they need to prosper.
The policy includes a range of new measures and initiatives to support rural enterprise and employment, improve access to essential services in remote areas, tackle rural isolation and strengthen community resilience through innovation and technology.
These initiatives complement wider Government commitments on rural housing, transport, digital connectivity and the regeneration of rural towns and villages.
Structured around five strategic pillars, the policy provides a comprehensive framework for addressing the key opportunities and challenges facing rural Ireland.
Speaking at the launch, the Taoiseach said:
“Rural Ireland is central to our national identity and to the future of our country. Our rural communities have enormous strengths and potential, and this Government is committed to ensuring they have the opportunities, infrastructure and services they need to thrive.
“This next iteration of Our Rural Future sets out an ambitious vision for rural Ireland, where people can build their lives, businesses can grow and young people can look to the future with confidence. It reflects our commitment to balanced regional development and recognises that realising our ambition for rural Ireland requires a coordinated, whole-of-Government approach, with rural communities at the heart of decision-making.”
Speaking about the publication of the new policy, the Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD said:
“Rural Ireland is continually changing and the needs of those who live there change with it. The first Our Rural Future policy, launched in 2021, marked a significant step forward in our approach to rural development and addressing those needs. Today, we can see the positive impact of sustained investment in towns, villages and communities right across the country.
“This new policy builds on those achievements, while recognising the emerging opportunities and challenges facing rural Ireland. Alongside strengthening existing supports, we are introducing new measures that will help communities respond to changing needs, strengthen local economies and services, and make the most of advances in digital connectivity.
“We recognise that every rural community is different, with its own strengths, priorities and challenges. Our place-based approach reflects this diversity, including the distinct needs and opportunities of our Gaeltacht and island communities, and the importance of supporting their long-term sustainability and development.
“Our focus now is firmly on delivery, working across Government to deliver practical improvements that make a real difference to people living and working in rural Ireland.”
Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke TD said:
“Rural Ireland plays a vital role in our national economy, with a strong and diverse enterprise base and enormous potential for further growth. From agri-food and tourism to emerging industries and innovative businesses, rural areas continue to contribute to Ireland’s economic success.
“This new Our Rural Future policy will build on these strengths, supporting enterprise and employment, encouraging innovation and harnessing the opportunities presented by digital technologies, AI and new ways of working. Our ambition is to strengthen rural economies and ensure they continue to play a central role in our national economic development.”
Speaking about the importance of securing a sustainable future for rural Ireland, Minister of State Seán Canney TD said:
“Rural communities have always shown remarkable resilience and an ability to adapt to change. As we look to the future, it is important that we equip them to respond to emerging challenges while making the most of new opportunities.
“This new Our Rural Future policy recognises the importance of planning for the long term, from protecting our natural environment and responding to climate change, to strengthening the resilience of essential infrastructure in rural areas.
“Our ambition is to support a rural Ireland that is environmentally sustainable, economically resilient and socially strong, where communities can continue to thrive for generations to come.”
Speaking about the importance of putting people and communities at the heart of the policy, Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Jerry Buttimer TD said:
“Strong communities are at the heart of rural Ireland. Across the country, local organisations, volunteers and community groups make an extraordinary contribution to rural life, bringing people together and creating places where everyone feels they belong.
“This new policy recognises the importance of building on these strengths, improving rural transport and access to community facilities and services, and addressing challenges such as loneliness and rural isolation.
“By supporting local participation and continuing to invest in the facilities and services that bring people together, we can help build stronger, more resilient rural communities, where people of all ages feel connected, supported and valued.”
An accompanying Action Plan sets out the practical measures to be delivered across Government over the first half of the policy period, providing a framework for implementation and monitoring progress. Further actions will be identified over the period to 2031 to support the continued delivery of the policy’s commitments.
Our Rural Future 2026-2031 has been informed by extensive consultation and engagement with rural communities and stakeholders, helping to ensure that the policy reflects the experiences, priorities and perspectives of those living and working in rural Ireland.
The policy has also been informed by the OECD’s 2026 Rural Policy Review of Ireland, which highlighted the strengths of Ireland’s whole-of-government approach to rural development and provided valuable insights that have helped shape the new policy.
A series of regional events will be held across the country over the coming months to engage directly with rural communities on the priorities and commitments set out in the new Our Rural Future policy. The events will also provide information on the range of funding opportunities and supports available, including practical guidance on eligibility and application processes, helping to make these supports more accessible to communities and organisations across rural Ireland.

26 Action on Data Centres Event What: Protest part of the Europe-wide Day of Action on Data Centres - we’re joining over 42 groups across Europe.
Where: Starting at the Garden of Remembrance, Dublin. We’ll be marching to the Dáil.
When: 12pm, Saturday, November 7th
Pushback against Big Tech’s power grab has been growing. Communities from Waterford to Derry have been out demanding an end to big data centre expansion in their areas. And last week, the Waterford Council refused planning permission for a large-scale data centre in Kilmeaden - a huge testament to the power of collective resistance.
And on the same day the AI summit was happening last week, over 300,000 workers across the country were on strike for fair pay. Trade unions also called counter AI summits to re-centre the workers’ voice against mass, extractive AI rollout.
It’s time we join the dots and come together to demand a stop to data centre buildout in Ireland so that we can bring down bills, stop massive gas expansion and prioritise clean, homegrown energy for the needs of the people.

28 Casting Call to Cavan for The Traitors
Casting Callout for Season 3 of The Traitors Ireland
The Traitors Ireland is coming back to our screens and looking for the next batch of
players for Season 3 of the hit RTÉ series.
Season 2 aired this Autumn on RTÉ One and fans of the show were hooked week
after week as players were murdered and banished, deceived by the Traitors.
Hosted by Siobhan McSweeney, Series 2 was a major Irish television success and
now the producers are opening up casting for Series 3.
The nail-biting psychological reality competition sees a group of strangers arrive at
the iconic Slane Castle to play the ultimate game of deception, betrayal and trust, all
in the hope of winning up to €50,000. But, hidden amongst them are the Traitors,
who will attempt to secretly murder a player every night, without getting caught. It’s
up to the others, the Faithfuls, to try to detect who the Traitors are, and banish them
from the game, before they become their next victim.
Each day, the group embark on Missions as they work together to add more money
to the prize pot. For the lucky ones who survive to the end, they have the chance of
winning that life-changing cash, but if a Traitor remains undetected, they’ll steal all
the money.
The first two seasons have had such standout characters and now we’re on the hunt
for people who think they can bring something different to the game.
Do you think you have what it takes to lie and deceive your fellow players? Do you
think you’d make a good Traitor hunter?
Application details are below:
- You are, or will be at least 18 years old at the time of applying for The Traitors
Ireland.
- You have the right to legally reside in Ireland.
- You must be available to take part in the programme for up to 3 weeks
currently anticipated to be in March/April 2027. Please note that this may
change at our discretion without notice.

They MUST submit a bio of 50-300 words describing why you seek this seat and your suitability to be the voice for Social Inclusion in County Cavan. 33 Bailieborough/Cootehill Representation Sought
Your Community. Your Voice. Your Seat at the Table.
A seat is available on the Cavan PPN Secretariat for the Bailieborough/Cootehill Municipal District.
Want to do more than complain about how things are run? Come help shape how they’re run.
The PPN Secretariat is the engine room of Cavan’s Public Participation Network — connecting community organisations with local decision-making and making sure the voices of communities are heard where it matters.
As a Secretariat member, you’ll have the opportunity to:
-Influence how community voices are represented.
-Connect with organisations and community activists across Cavan.
-Shape the work and priorities of your PPN.
-Bring the perspective of your Municipal District to the table.
-Learn how local government and participative democracy actually work.
-And, perhaps most importantly, make a difference rather than just talk about making a difference.
You don't need to be a politician, an expert or a professional campaigner. You just need to care about your community, have something to say, and be willing to listen to others.
If you’ve ever thought, “Someone should do something about that…” — this could be your chance to be that someone.
Join the Cavan PPN Secretariat.
Bring your voice. Bring your ideas. Bring your community.
Bailieborough/Cootehill Municipal District — your seat is waiting.
Send your expression of interest into cavanppn@gmail.com with a few lines as to why you want to run.
You must be a member of a registered PPN group in East Cavan.
